Basic Literacy: 1 x 1 Tutoring in Reading, Writing, or Math
After registering, students complete the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test independently in our computer lab. This test will check starting proficiency in English reading, writing, and math.
The test may take more than one hour. It does not need to be completed in one sitting!
After the test is complete, Literacy Council staff will review the scores to identify strengths and areas of improvement. This information will be shared with the student's tutor after a match is made. Tutors will use this information to plan activities and lessons.
After the test is complete, all Basic Literacy students are placed on a Wait List until a 1 x 1 tutor is matched. Once matched, students usually meet with a tutor to work on basic education skills one or two days per week.
