Response to Swine Flu

If Fort Bend Independent School District closes due to Swine Flu, the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County will be closed immediately for all classes.  As classes resume for FBISD, our classes will also resume.

Stay Healthy

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus.  It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.  The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccination each year.

What you can do to stay healthy:

  • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.  Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleansers are also effective
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.  Germs spread that way
  • Stay home if you get sick.  The CDC (Center for Disease Control) recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them
  • Stay informed, call the CDC at 1-800-CDC-INFO for more information, website www.cdc.gov
