Mission

The mission of the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County is to improve community, family, and professional lives through adult literacy education.

Our History

The story of the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County (LCFBC) started at the kitchen table in 1987 when a group of concerned women realized that far too many Fort Bend residents lacked the literacy and English-speaking skills needed to navigate a rapidly changing world. The urgency was great, and the charge was clear: the women knew that they had to create an organization to support adult learners build and develop their literacy skills.

Their hard work resulted in the founding of the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County and for the past 39 years, LCFBC has set the standard for adult education in the region through a focused commitment to our mission to improve community, family, and professional lives through adult literacy education. Since 1987, we have served over 20,000 adult learners. Volunteer tutors have complted over 1 million hours of instruction.
